New Video Site Launched

May 28, 2008

We quietly rolled out our new video site last Friday. The new site sports a new search function and channels to help find what your looking for faster. We’re doing a lot of back tagging, so more improvements to come in channels and even more content. The uploading has been coming in at a rapid pace, and one of our service providers experienced a 500% increase in bandwidth over the past month. The serving rates are now in the multiple Peta byte range - many thousand Tera bytes: amazing growth in video across the board. Video ranks in the highest click-through from eNews and the overwhelming recommendation is for suppliers to provide video press releases and other compelling content when possible for maximum exposure.

Content creation is the bottleneck, and we have also launched a program to help suppliers shoot, edit, post and distribute video at a number of trade shows this year - more info can be found here.

Marketing Site Redesign

May 22, 2008

Welcome to the new Marketing Labs site, an overhaul from our basic blog site. In the new format, we’ll be able to better categorize and highlight features. A new search function helps find relevant posts, and you’ll find all the main categories at top. Child categories are now pull downs, and we have tagged most content for relevancy. There’s a lot going on in the online space to state the obvious, and the new site format gives us greater flexibility to communicate. We encourage your participation and involvement.

Engineering Careers

May 13, 2008

Our beta careers site has been running now quietly live for about a month, and our official announcement came today via business wire.

Part of our effort as well is to transfer over the long running job site that has been active at MCAD Central for several years. Our goal is to continually improve as users and recruiters provide feedback. The careers board will also benefit from promotion across the Design World Digital Network and a tie in with the Design World LinkedIn group.

I recently read at WSJ that engineering occupied the top spot for job demand, and DW is well positioned to help our community of professionals.

LinkedIn : Social Partnerships

LinkedIn Logo

A while back, we launched a LinkedIn Group as an informal networking group for design engineers and others. We did limit marketers and head hunters, as we wanted to foster a core community of engineers. The results since launch have been amazing really, and it proves the point that we’re already in a ‘networking’ or ‘connection’ phase in the online world where people want to belong, contribute and control content, especially among peers.

I’m even more pleased as Folio just published a great story on LinkedIn and included us. http://www.foliomag.com/2008/turning-social-partnerships-profit

Although the article title implies monetization , we did not launch the Group for profit, and we’re now well above our 1K goal within just about a month. And importantly for us - as Scott is quoted “…we’re looking at setting up an editorial advisory board and this is an editorial advisory board on steroids. We can go in and get instant feedback…”

Look for more from us on the LinkedIn front real soon, and if inclined, join our Group and start networking.
